Supervisor Speak
I believe townships represent local self-governance in its truest and purest form. Elected by their neighbors and fellow residents to carry out the day to day responsibilities of running the community, township supervisors reflect the values of the people they serve. As your present supervisor I will continue serving you this way. Your home is your investment in Warrington Township. My job is to protect your investment, keep its value, and provide a good quality of life in Warrington Township. I found many politicians speak from the side of their mouths, telling you what you want to hear. That’s not my style. I will keep being out spoken, continue to fight for your property rights, go head to head with the developers, and help my constituents the best possible way.
The May 17 primary election is a most important election to all Republican voters.
Supervisors John Paul, Lee Fein and Becky Kiefer control three of the five votes on the board. This is a powerful position. Being the minority of your own party is frustrating. For example, I presented accurate research for denying approval on a developer’s plan to my fellow board members at a public township meeting. Supervisor Lee Fein stated, “I agree with Supervisors McKay & Butterworth to what they are saying, but I have to vote for approval.” When I took office I was told “just because you were elected doesn’t mean you will get anything done - we control the votes”. You know what? They were right.
Supervisor terms of Mr. Paul and Mr. Fein end December 31, 2005. John Paul has chosen to run again for another six years. Lee Fein was appointed by Paul & Kiefer. Although he is called an incumbent, he will be running for office for his very first time. Andy Lyons and Ed Butterworth will be on the Republican ballot. They are the best candidates to represent your interest and protect your community from traffic issues, developers’ demands, and storm water issues. They will protect open space with no zoning changes which increase density. You can only vote for two of the four candidates. Lyons & Butterworth is your best choice. Your vote becomes quite powerful in this election. Break the control of our present Warrington government for the next six years. You have the Power. Your vote will tell me what direction you want to go. It is all up to you.
Supervisors Paul, Fein, and Kiefer have concerns of a Conflict of Interest between me and my husband serving on the board. Though Ed and I allow each other our independence of opinion, I had the same concerns. On April 17 I spoke to the State Ethics Commission and the Pennsylvania State Association of Township Supervisors on this matter. I was told Ed Butterworth could serve as supervisor. It is his right, as long as he does not vote for any matters were he, myself, family, employee, or his employer would receive a financial gain from our voting. Serving as your supervisor, I have many times acknowledged what I believed was a conflict of interest pertaining to my landlord, personal friendships, and insurance clients, so I abstained from voting on those matters. The Pennsylvania Sunshine Law is no different serving as your present supervisor or with a spouse on the board. The same would apply to both and also to every other member of the board.
Please come out and vote for Andy Lyons and Ed Butterworth for Warrington Township Supervisors, known as the Residents’ Candidates. Put Warrington government back into the hands of the people.
Hope to see you at the polls.
Carol
P.S. By the way, the opponents referred to Supervisor McKay’s employment with my business as a concern. His employment last year consisted of temporarily helping me out at my Jamison office while I was on away on vacation. NICE TRY !!
